Ninaz Saffari Criminal Defense Attorney

Criminal Defense Attorney

Ninaz Saffari

Ninaz Saffari has built an impeccable reputation as one of the top criminal defense attorneys in Los Angeles and is renowned for being an extremely aggressive and effective trial lawyer. Devoting her entire career to criminal law, Ninaz Saffari’s law practice has been defined by taking on numerous high-profile cases.

Since starting out as a Deputy Public Defender to pursuing a solo practice, she has proven herself to be a true believer who fights tirelessly for her clients. Her experience in defending hundreds of clients over the last 14 years, as well as in dozens of jury trials, has given her the knowledge and skill to successfully handle virtually any type of criminal case.

Trial Lawyer

Since 2004, Ninaz Saffari’s practice has focused primarily on defending adults at jury trials and juveniles in court trials in Los Angeles. She has successfully represented defendants against all types of felonies and misdemeanors, including murder, sex crimes, crimes of violence, drug offenses, domestic violence, and DUI’s. Many of the clients she has successfully defended at trial were facing decades in prison or even life sentences. A number of clients were acquitted and released from jail after spending a year or more in custody. Ninaz Saffari takes great pride in defending each client with the same level of intensity, devotion, and professionalism, regardless of the charges.

The Corey Stewart Case

Ninaz Saffari has made a name for herself in the Los Angeles legal community by taking on some of the most challenging and high-profile sex crimes cases. For example, because of her extraordinary efforts, the District Attorney’s Office dismissed all charges against her client Corey Stewart on the first day of trial after she proved that the two alleged rape “victims” had lied about their accusations.

After spending 14 months in jail, Mr. Stewart walked out a free man, having established his innocence, in a case that garnered significant media attention. Ninaz Saffari has successfully defended many clients like Mr. Stewart whose cases other lawyers believed were unwinnable. She understands that a vigorous and skillful defense is particularly important in light of today’s “Time’s Up” and “Me, Too” movements where the accuser is automatically believed over the protestations of innocence by the defendant.

One of the keys to Ninaz Saffari’s outstanding case results and trial victories has been her thorough and relentless investigation of all the pertinent facts and witnesses. She is also highly skilled at arguing persuasively before both judges and juries and is always up-to-date on legal opinions from California courts that can help her clients.

Criminal Law Experience

In light of her vast experience and knowledge, Ninaz Saffari is often consulted by other senior criminal defense attorneys who need help strategizing on their own cases, as well as by media representatives who seek comment on major breaking news stories. She has appeared numerous times on national television as a legal expert on CBS News’ This Morning, CNN’s Headline News, and the FOX News Channel.

Her successful track record attests to her commitment to staying abreast of all important legal developments and cutting-edge investigative techniques, as well as her incomparable skill at cross-examining the prosecution’s witnesses, including police officers.

Educational and Professional Background

Ms. Saffari graduated from the University of California at Berkeley (the number-one public university in the U.S.) in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. After working for several years as a paralegal for a major international corporate law firm in San Francisco, she pursued her dream of becoming a criminal defense attorney.

She enrolled in the prestigious Santa Clara University School of Law in Silicon Valley, California, and graduated with a Juris Doctor degree (J.D.) in 2004.

During law school, she interned with J. Tony Serra, the legendary criminal defense and civil rights attorney in San Francisco. During this internship, Ms. Saffari worked with him on the successful 2004 acquittal of Rick Tabish following a murder conviction in the sensational death of Las Vegas casino mogul Ted Binion.

Also during law school, Ms. Saffari worked as a Law Clerk for the San Francisco County Office of the Public Defender, under District Attorney Jeff Adachi.

Working for Mr. Serra inspired her to become an outstanding and experienced trial attorney, which is why after graduating she worked as a Deputy Public Defender with the Los Angeles Public Defender’s Office. She served as a Deputy P.D. for four years, during which she conducted more than 20 jury trials and 30 juvenile adjudication hearings. She defended everything from cases involving sex crimes and domestic violence to drug offenses and violent crimes. She also worked extensively at the Compton and Inglewood courthouses, as well as at the Inglewood Juvenile Courthouse.

In 2013, she joined the Shouse Law Group in L.A. as the firm’s Senior Trial Attorney and Managing Attorney. During that period, she tried many major criminal cases before juries.

In Spring 2016, she left Shouse to pursue a solo practice, with the vast majority of her cases coming from word-of-mouth, former clients or other attorneys who know her reputation. To date, she has been either the sole or lead counsel in more than 30 jury trials and 30 court trials (decided by a judge and not a jury).

She is licensed to practice law in all California state courts, as well as the federal Central District Court of Los Angeles. She speaks five languages, is fluent in Farsi (Persian) and German, and is proficient in Spanish.
